One tradition, two cities
Water puppetry originated in the Red River Delta around Hanoi, but the art form has spread to purpose-built theatres across Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City's Golden Dragon — a genuinely separate show, cast and venue from anything running in Hanoi.
Which one should you book?
If Saigon is your base, the Golden Dragon show is the convenient, well-reviewed option in District 1. If your trip also takes in Hanoi, seeing a northern water-puppet theatre adds the art form's home-region context.
